Workshops for Mental Health Therapists

 

MBSU offers Workshops for Mental Health Therapists interested in learning specific Individual Therapy Strategies aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of work with clients.

Chuck Nuttall, LCSW teaches a variety of courses in a small classroom setting. They are designed to offer concrete tools and strategies for therapists to assist clients in meeting treatment goals.

Values-Based Treatment Planning

Course Objectives:
* Learn strategies to assist clients in identifying and prioritizing their values.
* Learn how to use these values to develop a meaningful treatment plan with your client, and guiding treatment accordingly.

Introduction to Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Course Objectives:
* Obtain an understanding of the dialectical philosophy and approaching life with a Dialectical World View.
* Learn how to navigate treatment using Dialectical problem-solving strategies.

Validation & Commitment Strategies

Course Objectives:
* Understand the role of Validation and Commitment in the various stages of treatment.
* Be able to effectively use these Strategies to develop a strong working relationship with clients.

Behavioral Chain Analysis & Solutions Analysis

Course Objectives:
* Develop an understanding of how behaviors serve a function and purpose in the moment the behavior occurs.
* Conduct a behavioral chain analysis with clients to gain awareness into the function of their behaviors.
* Conduct a solutions analysis with clients to identify alternative behaviors available to them.

Exposure Techniques & Contingency Management Strategies

Course Objectives:
* Understand the role of exposing clients to specific, targeted emotions during a therapy session.
* Learn strategies to help manage the client’s response to these emotions during the session (in vivo).
* Learn how setting up clear expectations with clients through the use of contingencies
* Learn strategies to assist in setting and enforcing boundaries & limits with clients.

Shaping behaviors with Classical & Operant Conditioning

Course Objectives:
* Understand the principles of Classical & Operant Conditioning and how they impact human behavior.
* Learn strategies to assist clients in gaining awareness on how these principles influence their behaviors.
* Learn how to use Shaping strategies to assist clients in developing effective behaviors in order to meet treatment goals.

Train the Trainer: How to lead a DBT Skills Training Group

Course Objectives:
* Understand the dialectic nature of DBT skills training
* Identify the Strategies & Procedures required for effective teaching of DBT skills
* Be able to utilize recent updates to DBT Skills training
* Be familiar with DBT Skills Modules
* Know how to structure DBT skills training for specific populations
* Effectively review DBT skills training homework
